Children's Services

How The Rainbow Centre Can Help You

Children with Cerebral Palsy, neurological disorders, acquired head injuries and with developmental delay should have access to highly trained and specialised professionals.

We offer a range of sessions with tailored support to help your child develop their mobility, motor, sensory, communication, emotional and self-help skills using a system called Conductive Education. We believe by nurturing your child to explore movement, have fun and succeed, they will learn skills which are meaningful in everyday life.

Achieving success

We work with you and your family to help develop a quality of life and experience where you can learn and play together; and make the most of family life. Staff at The Rainbow Centre act as positive role models. They are involved in the process of setting appropriate goals which are challenging, but achievable, to ensure all children strive to succeed. It is a vital part of the process that all staff identify opportunities for learning that naturally arise during the day.

Early Intervention Group (0-3 years)

Young children attend the Early Intervention Group with their parents and start their journey through life in a warm and positive environment. Our aim is to teach parents how to engage with their child in play, development and learning. The skills learned in session are easily transferable to home life, which will enables parents to continue to support and help your child to develop and thrive.

The Rainbow Centre is the perfect place for parents to meet up informally and provides support and information.

We are proud members of The National Portage Association Stamp of Approval Scheme. This is an award given to early year’s settings who have demonstrated they deliver inclusive early years education based upon Portage Principles.

Special Needs Nursery (3-5 years)

Providing a broad and balanced curriculum at appropriate levels within a CE framework based on the Early Years Foundation Stage.

The Special Needs Nursery offers an outstanding nursery education based on the Early Years Foundation Stage for children between the ages 3-5. The size of the group is based on the ages and stages of the children. The Special Needs Nursery is registered with OFSTED as a full day care provider and has received “outstanding” grade for last five inspections. Click here to view our current Ofsted-Inspection-2020

In this group children are taught by conductor teachers/early years professionals, qualified with BA Hons, level 6. This is an important stage in their life as they start to understand how to use their movement to develop their confidence, independence, social and daily living skills, and at the same time, have access to their academic learning.

The Special Needs Nursery is open from 10.00-15.00, but to ensure that all children’s individual needs are met, there is flexibility offered to all 3 and 4 year olds’ with start and finish times. Please contact us to find out more.

The School Booster (5-14 years)

Helping to create a happy and secure environment for the children and parents in order to enjoy learning.

In our School Booster groups all children have the opportunity to focus on developing their movement and self-care skills as well as their general education. We help them to gain a greater understanding of their condition and abilities, to increase their confidence and learn how to apply these skills in their everyday life.

This service is designed to meet the needs of school aged children. They may have access to dual placement, attending their local mainstream or special needs school as well as The Rainbow Centre.

Saturday Club Group (7-16 years)

Promoting independence and daily living skills in order to become an active member of the school.

Many children may be attending their local schools and spending much of their time focusing on gaining academic skills. Alongside this, however, it is very important that your child continues to learn how to increase the level of both physical and social skills as well as independence, in orderto gain better access to their academic learning.

The Saturday Club helps your child to achieve this. You, as a parent, will be encouraged to accompany your child, so that you are actively involved in your child’s learning and physical education.

Holiday Clubs

Promoting independence and daily living skills in order to become an active member of society

The Rainbow Centre offers a range of sessions with tailored support for children with Cerebral Palsy, motor or neurological conditions, which aim to help your child develop their independence, mobility, motor, sensory, communication, emotional, problem-solving and self-help skills using a system called Conductive Education.  We believe by nurturing your child to explore movement, have fun and succeed, they will learn skills which are meaningful in everyday life.  The daily routine is structured but is lots of fun and, if the weather allows, we will use our garden as much as possible.

It is very important that your child continues to learn how to increase the level of both physical and social skills, as well as independence, through the holidays, to gain better access to their academic learning and everyday life.

The Holiday Club is vital to our families to give the parents extra support or the opportunity to have some free time for themselves, along with the knowledge that their child can continue some physical and social activities in the holidays with their peers, maintaining their abilities and keeping to their routine.

The Holiday Club is open from 10.00-15.00 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for ages 3 and above, and for our Early Intervention Parent and Child Group (Under 3’s) we offer sessions from 10.00-12.00 or 13.00-15.00 on Wednesdays.

Fees & Funding

As a charity we offer as much as we can for as little as we can, the reality remains however that we are self-funded. This is why we ask for a contribution only from parents towards the total and actual session cost in order to help maintain and run sessions at Rainbow now and into the future.

Depending on your personal situation there may be funding available through your Local Authority but where other forms of funding are not always available we may be able to advise or help you access alternative funds. Where possible we try to ensure that fees are not a barrier to accessing The Rainbow Centre’s services.
